What Happens When You Replace Scrolling with the Quran: Hiba’s Exam Season Experiment

June 4, 2026

What would change in your life if the time you spend scrolling went somewhere else entirely?

Hiba Fatima Siddiqui, a student from India, ran that experiment on herself. She was preparing for a major exam, the kind of high-pressure season that can consume a person’s entire inner life. “Preparing for a major exam can feel overwhelming,” she says, “but studying the Quran through Bayyinah helped me shift my perspective. It reminded me that no matter how stressful life or studies become, there is always Allah to turn to.”

The Trade

The biggest change Hiba made during her preparation was cutting down social media completely. She did not just remove the distraction. She replaced it. The time that used to disappear into feeds now went into learning from Bayyinah TV. Her routine settled into something deliberate: a lesson after Fajr in the mornings, usually from the Deeper Look series, Story Nights or the historical deep dives.

There is something fitting about her choice of hour. Allah describes the hours of the night as uniquely suited for taking in His words: إِنَّ نَاشِئَةَ اللَّيْلِ هِيَ أَشَدُّ وَطْئًا وَأَقْوَمُ قِيلًا “Indeed, worship in the depths of the night is firmer in impact and more suited for words” (73:6). The stillness right after Fajr, before the world wakes up, carries some of that same quality. Hiba was not just managing her screen time. She was giving the Quran the quietest hours she had.

From Studying a Surah to Carrying It

Surah Al-Muzzammil resonated with her so deeply that studying it turned into memorizing it. Then she memorized Surah Al-Muddaththir as well. Now she is following the Surah Ar-Rahman series. Notice the progression. She did not set out to become a memorizer. Understanding came first and the memorization followed naturally, because it is far easier to hold onto words that mean something to you.

From Distraction to Direction

Looking back, Hiba describes her previous year as distracted and somewhat directionless. “Bayyinah helped me replace that emptiness with something meaningful and beneficial,” she says. “It gave me a sense of clarity and direction during an intense phase of my life.” She has since recommended the Story Nights series to her mother and younger brother, because in her words, these resources can benefitanyone.

If you have been feeling scattered, try Hiba’s trade for one week. Give the Quran your first hour and see what it does to the rest of your day.
