Khidr's Lesson and Modern Frameworks

فَٱنطَلَقَا حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَا رَكِبَا فِى ٱلسَّفِينَةِ خَرَقَهَا

So they set out, until when they had embarked on the ship, he made a hole in it.

Al-Kahf 18:71 — Sahih International

Not in this particular story. The point of the story of Khidr is specifically that even a prophet — Musa (AS) — could not make sense of that behavior. You are not meant to extract a principle from these three episodes that can serve as a framework for how to behave.

The lesson is that Allah sees the bigger picture. There is another set of revelation — a knowledge of Allah's larger plans — that is beyond what human revelation gives us access to. That is why even Musa, who had revelation from Allah, did not have the knowledge Khidr had. And Allah showed him these episodes precisely to say: you will never have access to these plans. So we are not meant to learn a theory from them.

If you start extracting principles from these stories as behavioral frameworks, you end up in very dangerous territory — like justifying killing a child based on future harm. That is explicitly not the lesson.

More broadly: is it fine to ponder the Quran using knowledge you have from other fields? Yes, absolutely — that kind of interdisciplinary reflection is encouraged and can open doors. But in this specific story, the entire point is that no human framework, no matter how sophisticated, can capture what is happening here.
