أَحَسِبَ ٱلنَّاسُ أَن يُتْرَكُوٓا۟ أَن يَقُولُوٓا۟ ءَامَنَّا وَهُمْ لَا يُفْتَنُونَ
Do the people think that they will be left to say, 'We believe' and they will not be tried?
Al-Ankabut 29:2 — Sahih International
Answered by Nouman Ali Khan
It is of course specific to that context in its original revelation — but from it, we draw universal observations. Nobody will ever have faith without it being tested. That is the universal principle.
You will be tested with the things you love the most. You will be tested with the things you fear the most. You will be tested with the things you have the most anxiety about. If you have a strong attachment to something, maybe you will be tested with loss. If you have a strong fear, maybe you will be faced with the very thing you feared most.
Our tests come in our pain points. Special love for a child? You may be tested through your child. Faith in comfortable settings is easy. It is really only when we are put to the test that we find out whether we truly believe — whether faith is actually faith.
