From an Art Contest to Intermediate Nahw: How Shifa Refused to Let Go of Arabic

June 4, 2026

What would you do with one year of access to everything you ever wanted to learn?

For Shifa Sadaf, a university student from India, that question became real in December 2024. Her journey started earlier, with a search for a way to understand Arabic. She found Bayyinah’s Arabic course but did not know where to start and at the time, she could not afford a membership. For many students, that is where the story would end. For Shifa, it was only the opening scene.

A Door Opens on the Last Day

A few months later, Shifa came across the Bayyinah Art Contest. She submitted her artwork on the very last day and won under the category “Most Thought-Provoking Concept.” The prize was a one-year membership. “That became a turning point in my journey,” she says.

Making Every Class Count

What Shifa did with that year is what makes her story worth telling. As a university student she sometimes had to take breaks, but she kept coming back. She worked through the Dream 2023 program, then Intensive 3 and Intensive 4. When her membership ended, she was only a few classes away from finishing Intermediate Nahw. A yearly renewal was not affordable for her, so she did the next thing she could. She bought a one-month membership during Ramadan to keep learning.

That kind of persistence has a promise attached to it: وَالَّذِينَ جَاهَدُوا فِينَا لَنَهْدِيَنَّهُمْ سُبُلَنَا “As for those who strive in Our cause, We will surely guide them along Our ways” (29:69). Shifa strove with what she had, a piece of artwork, stolen pockets of time between semesters, one month of savings in Ramadan. The guidance kept coming.

Not Just a Language

Ask Shifa what she has learned and she will not give you a grammar answer. “Arabic with Bayyinah has shown me that this is not just a language. It is a journey with the Quran,” she says. “Every harakah, every grammatical explanation and every ayah makes more sense now. Understanding the Quran feels deeply comforting.”

Someone Is Waiting for Their Turning Point

Shifa’s turning point was a gift she earned with her art. Right now there are thousands of students like her, people with the hunger but not the means, waiting for their own door to open. You could be the reason it does. Gift a Bayyinah TV membership and you may be funding someone’s journey from “I can’t afford this” to finishing Nahw.
