Campus
The Bayyinah campus offers a unique mix of campus, family, and professional life.
The campus itself is located within a commercial building that also houses a number of businesses. With this being the case, students will be expected to respect the ‘business casual’ environment of the building by always conducting themselves in a professional manner inside and outside the classroom. Students are reminded that while attending the program, they are not only representing themselves and Bayyinah, but in some respects Islam itself.
The campus life itself is one that aims to accommodate as many needs for the student as possible. In addition to a state of the art classroom, there are also prayer areas, kitchen area, offices, student lounges, and a children’s play area. Outside of class, students often utilize the campus facility to not only relax, but come back later for individual and group study.
Housing
Bayyinah does not offer any kind of student housing, so students relocating to the area for Dream will be responsible for their own living arrangements.
Students are advised to live as close to the campus as possible, as it makes it easier to not only attend class, but also any additional office hours, auxiliary modules, and group study sessions.
There are a couple of predominantly Muslim neighborhoods adjacent to the Irving masjid. Some students have been successful in locating rental properties in the Tuscan Villas neighborhood. For additional assistance, Bayyinah would recommend enlisting the help of a realtor if a house is needed.
The majority of students stay in the Avalon Villas and San Simeon apartment complexes.
Bayyinah enlisted the use of JW Ellis apartment locators to help students find apartments. They understand the needs of students coming for the 10 month program and should assist at no cost to the student.
As students are accepted, Bayyinah will facilitate separate discussions via email for the brothers and sisters accepted to find potential roommates. This process worked successfully for 2010/11 and 2011/12.
It should be noted that Bayyinah is only facilitating the discussion between students that desire it. All roommate arrangements are made independently by the students themselves.
The DFW Area
The Bayyinah campus is located in the heart of the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex within one mile of one of the largest Islamic centers in the state of Texas. It is an area with a thriving Muslim population and has everything a person would need nearby. Below is a summarized listing of some of the Masajid, schools, and local Muslim businesses for the area. Additionally, there are some tips at the end for moving to the area that should be reviewed.
Masjids
Schools
There are a number of halal grocery stores and restaurants in the area. In addition to this, the cafeteria for the building that houses the Bayyinah campus also serves halal meat. To see a list of businesses, please refer to the listings for Irving, TX on Zabihah.com.
Students are advised to move to the area at least 2-3 weeks before class starts. This allows time to settle in, hook up utilities, set up furniture, purchase needed household items, and so on. Students arriving close to the start of class will find it difficult to manage a full study load and trying to move in at the same time.
Vehicle Registration: Within 30 days of moving to Texas, you will be required to complete all the items listed at the DMV website.
