The Qur’an for Family series is our newest initiative at Bayyinah. It is a series of family friendly, affordable, insightful and enjoyable programs designed to inspire and motivate the entire family to build a strong bond with the Final Word.

Visit the Qur’an for Family page for more information on specific courses.

How Does it Work?

One of the requests that Bayyinah receives regularly is for instructors to visit a community more frequently, and for more Quranic studies programs. Not just Quranic studies programs, but ones that the whole family can come and enjoy.

With this in mind, we launched the Quran for Family series in June 2010. The structure of the program is to take one surah and cover it in a half day format (11am to 6pm). It is something that the whole family can attend and benefit from.

Which Surahs Are Being Taught?

At present, Surah Rahman and Surah YaSeen are the two seminars being taught in the Quran for Family program.

Who’s Teaching?

Bayyinah instructors Nouman Ali Khan and AbdulNasir Jangda will be teaching the seminars.

How Do We Bring it To Our Community?

Quran for Family is only being taught at locations that have previously held a Bayyinah weekend seminar (Essentials of Tajweed, Divine Speech, and/or Meaningful Prayer). To bring it to your community, click here for more information.

Quran Intensive 2012 will be from June 8th to July 8th. Mark your calenders!

Details coming soon!

In the meantime, you can see the curriculum at the bottom of this page to see what it’s all about.

Bayyinah Qur’an Intensive

Bayyinah has continuously offered extremely successful short Arabic intensives all over the country for the last few years. We have long recognized the need for a potent Qur’anic / Arabic studies program longer than the original evening course. It is with great pleasure and excitement that we present Bayyinah’s latest initiative, THE QUR’AN INTENSIVE. 30 continuous days of Arabic & Tafseer studies that we hope will become a summer tradition.

Not only is this a great opportunity for people who have sincerely wanted to further their knowledge of Qur’an and Arabic, but this will also be a strong foundation for individuals who have aspirations of studying Arabic full time at our 10-Month Arabic intensive DREAM program.

Working professionals, high school or college students, and most importantly families will now have the opportunity to make their summer truly productive by taking advantage of a thoroughly planned curriculum that balances theory and application.

We invite teachers and community leaders who are entrusted with educating their communities whether it is at the Islamic school, weekend school, or Halaqah level to come and gain insight into the instructional methodologies employed by Bayyinah and its reputable instructors. Communities and organizations are encouraged to send and sponsor members of their staff and congregation who serve in an educational capacity or have the potential to do so.

Curriculum

The Qur’an Intensive is the answer to a growing need for Muslims in the west: a practical program to immerse students in classical Arabic grammar, creating a thorough appreciation of the beautiful message of the Qur’an.

Students can expect to gain the ability to grammatically analyze the Qur’an and access its timeless guidance and practical application in one’s daily life. Our intensive curriculum is designed to allow a student to accomplish six months worth of part-time study in 30 days. Achieving this hinges on the commitment of not only our staff and instructors, but also the student’s commitment to fulfill their dreams of understanding The Book of Allah, and therein coming closer to Allah.

The following is a detailed breakdown of what will be covered in The Qur’an Intensive:

Why is This Course Important?

Salah is the core act of worship in Islam, and every Muslim strives to improve the quality of their prayer. The first step to attaining true serenity in prayer is to have complete comprehension of every part of the prayer, and that is what this class aims to do.

What Will You Accomplish After Taking This Class?

Full understanding of all the phrases and adhkar of the salah – giving the one performing prayer full cognizance and understanding of everything he or she is saying during the course of their prayer.

Pre-Requisites for This Course?

The seminar is designed for people with or without extensive background in Arabic. It is however recommended that the attendee possess knowledge of at least reading Arabic text, even if without comprehension. The goal of the seminar is embedded in its title; that it becomes easier for its attendees to achieve a meaningful prayer.

What Are Other Students Saying About It?

Last weekend, I attended the Meaningful Prayers in Windsor, ON, and I have to make this ostentatious and cheesy statement: This class was the most practical class I have ever taken in my life. I used the words ostentatious and cheesy because I have taken plethora of weekend seminars and many of them were beneficial and amazing; hence, for me to say that this particular class was “the most” practical probably doesn’t do justice to other seminars, but I feel I am forced to make this statement.

This past Ramadan, one of my goals was to improve the quality of my salah (prayer). I had read books and listened to lectures on
developing khushu’ etc. I had also studied many tafseer books available in English language to deeply understand the meaning of al-Fatihah. The quagmire that I encountered in my journey was the wordings of different adhkar in the salah. The translations would literally made me want to pull my hair. In fact, originally I had
wanted to memorize various adhkar to vary the recitations and to generate more concentration during salah. However, the very first
du’a in Hisn al-Muslim book (Allaahumma ba’ed baynee…) that I wanted to memorize got me very frustrated, I couldn’t make sense out of its
translation, hence, it was an utterly formidable task for me to memorize it. I became hopeless, and basically trashed one of my major
goals, although I knew subconsciously that there is a problem with the resource that I have, not with the dhikr/du’a itself.

Alhamdulilah, Sheikh Abdul Nasir explained almost all of the important statements said in the salah, and not a single piece of information, I
felt, was irrelevant. In fact, it was very practical and is now helping me improve the quality of my salah. Congratulations to both
Bayyinah and the instructor. I ask Allah to reward you all with the best of rewards in this world and in the Hereafter, ameen.

 Your sister and student,
 Mariam R.

I found the shaykh very patient and kind while teaching; he was almost like a parent holding their child by the hand, helping them learn to walk. Very inspiring and funny. I pray that he comes back to Ottawa.

Wonderful class, Alhamdulillah!

Jazak Allahu Khair ya Shaykh Abdul Nasir for helping us to strengthen our salaat and khushoo.’ It really opened my eyes to the beauty and majesty of the Quran and the language it was written in….There were some words or phrases that I thought I was already familiar with, but the Shaykh always delved into its deeper meaning, making it even more significant. Example: “Allahu Akbar” literally means “Allah is Greater,” not “Allah is Great,” like most people assume. But Allah is Greater than what, exactly? Allah Subhaanahu wa Ta’ala left this open because He is Greater than anything and everything!!! SubhaanAllah, the eloquence of the Quran and the supplications we say in salaat and our daily lives are truly unmatched to anything in this life, wa alhamdulillah!

Why is This Course Important?

When it comes to Islamic studies, we often find people trying to learn and master complicated sciences while lacking the very basic connection to the source of Islam – the Quran. The importance of being able to read the book of Allah the way it was revealed if often overlooked and forgotten. We have seen two extremes when it comes to Quranic recitation. There are either those who read the entire Quran once as a child and then forgot about it, or those who are so advanced that a conversation with them regarding tajweed can leave the average person confused and intimidated. Our goal is to provide the essentials for Quranic reading in a way that is easy to understand and implement so that each and every one of our students can be one step closer to reading the Quran as it was revealed from our Lord to His beloved Messenger.

What Will You Accomplish After Taking This Class?

This course is built upon the premise that we will “bring your recitation up to PAR“ After taking this course you will have the ability to understand and implement:

Phonetics: The correct pronunciation of all the Arabic letters and their sounds
Accents: The correct implementation of accents
Rhythm: Implementation of complex tajweed rules without the complexity or technical terminology

One student commented,

If every Muslim on earth could take this course and benefit from it’s fruits, we would be one step closer to giving the book of Allah it’s right. It saddens me to think of people I know who had the choice to take the course but either chose not to take it, or drew the “it’s too hard” card and did not attend. The grief comes from the fact that after the course is gone, and one venue to spark the beginning of changing our relationship with the Qur’an leaves, those who missed its benefits will feel only one thing: regret. The regret could come after hearing their friends speak of the amazing class, how much fun it was, and how “worth it” the class had been. Another option is that they could feel that regret on the Day of Resurrection when they stand in front of Allah and have to explain why they never put forth effort to learn His Book that was revealed to us.

Pre-Requisites for This Course?

Basic ability to read Quran – even slowly. If you feel as though you are not at the level to take this class, please go through the Reading Essentials DVD’s. These will equip you with the ability to read Quran and get you ready to take this course.

What are Other Students Saying About it?

I thoroughly enjoyed this class because it clarified the thick mess of tajweed rules, that I had literally taken six times before, but never quite understood. I specifically enjoyed how structured and simplified it was with in the simple word of PAR: Phonetics, Accents, and Rhythm. I have heard previously that phonetics is a majority of tajweed and if one knows it, then they’re pretty much set. Now, I not only know, I can apply, and with more confidence. It is simply invigorating. Br. Wisam was such a spark to the class that even though, I was fasting, I neither remembered that I was fasting or hungry, nor felt tired at any instance, walhamdulillah. I have immense respect for him, not only because I had the chance to learn the noble Quran with him, but because his etiquettes are humbling and utterly beautiful. I want to thank this institute for providing a subject widely known as difficult and making it into a “hey, I can do that too” subject. Keep up the great work, I strongly encourage you continue the weekend tajweed seminars and all the amazing courses you’re dishing out. -Sister Doaa

This class took everything I had been struggling to learn for the past year and laid it out for me in a fully recognizable manner in two and a half short, intensive days. I have and will continue to advise my brothers and sisters to try and take this course. Jazakallahukhiran for your efforts.

MashaAllah, there are truly not words to express the impact it had on my family. Br. Wisam has made a seemingly daunting task(tajweed) an attainable goal. His material is simple and precise. His class comes at the attendees on a level and in a manner that is not only appealing but effective. As for his performance as a teacher, he is phenomenal, MashaAllah. I have 3 teens and they all came out of this class not only with an understanding of the importance and absolute need for Quran in their life but they came away with many valuable lessons that he added in as “tangents”. As a parent, this is invaluable. Br. Wisam may not completely understand the depth of his affect, not only on the youth but on the parents as well. He, personally, is an example of strength, determination, and hope for our youth. Our community owes a debt of gratitude to Br. Wisam and the Bayyinah institute for the work that is being doneb to protect Islam. JazakAllah Khair. -Sister Deborah

As an advanced tajweed student and Quran instructor I benefited immensely from Br. Wisam’s tajweed 102 course wal Hamdu Lillah!! I have immediately begun implementing many of the fun and easy ways of teaching makharij and tajweed …. I have never seen tajweed taught in an easier, more practical manner and realize that if our whole ummah can’t read like Sh. Husari, they can at least learn to read at a basic level correctly with the Mercy of Allah. It was also helpful for my personal tajweed because many times we forget to go to the “makhraj” and going through suwar slowly reminded me to give every letter it’s haqq and to slow down when i get to a complicated word.
